Orthodontics for adults involves specialized treatments to correct misaligned / crooked teeth in adulthood. At our modern dentistry practice in Leipzig, we primarily use modern aligner systems—transparent, removable dental splints that are virtually invisible. Unlike conventional fixed braces, aligners are much more comfortable to wear and are more aesthetically pleasing. To achieve optimal results, small tooth-colored attachments are temporarily bonded to the teeth as needed to improve the effectiveness of the invisible braces. We only resort to fixed brackets in cases of very severe malocclusion or in combination with jaw surgery. In these cases, we exclusively use modern, self-ligating ceramic brackets, which are planned using CAD/CAM technology and precisely placed using the indirect bonding method.
The decision to undergo orthodontics for adults in Leipzig can have various causes: Aesthetic reasons: A harmonious smile not only increases attractiveness, but also self-confidence.
Functional problems: Misalignments can lead to problems with chewing, speaking, or overloading individual teeth.
Periodontal health: Straight teeth are easier to clean, which reduces the risk of tooth gum diseases.
Temporomandibular joint problems: Malocclusion can lead to pain in the temporomandibular joint, headaches, or neck tension.
Follow-up treatment from childhood: Some adults require further treatment because their teeth have shifted again after previous treatment.
Pre-treatment for prosthetic dentures: Orthodontic pre-treatment may be necessary before crowns, bridges, or implants can be made.
The cost of orthodontics for adults at our practice in Leipzig varies depending on the treatment method, the severity of the misalignment, and the duration of treatment. The price for invisible braces for adults ranges from €4,000 to €8,000. Statutory health insurance companies usually only cover the costs for adults in medically necessary cases with severe misalignments. Private health insurance companies often offer better reimbursement options, depending on the individual tariff. We will draw up an individual cost plan after the initial examination.

Treatment begins with a comprehensive diagnosis, during which Dr. Niels Hoffmann conducts a thorough examination of your tooth and jaw. X-rays, 3D scans, and impressions enable a precise analysis. Based on these results, we create an individual treatment plan. For aligner treatment, digital impressions of your teeth are taken, which serve as the basis for computer-assisted planning and visualize the course of treatment.
With aligner treatment, you receive a series of transparent dental splints that you change every one to two weeks. Each aligner gradually moves your teeth into the desired position and should be worn for 20-22 hours a day. Instead of extracting teeth to create space, our practice uses the gentle ASR (approximal tooth reduction) procedure, which involves minimally reducing the enamel between the teeth.
After the active phase is complete, a stabilization phase with retainers is essential to ensure that the achieved results are maintained in the long term. We offer both fixed retainers (thin wires on the inside of the teeth) and removable retainers. Regular check-ups ensure that your teeth remain in the correct position.

With consistent follow-up treatment with retainers, the results of orthodontic treatment can last a lifetime. It is important to wear the retainers regularly. Without sufficient retention, there is a risk that the teeth will move back toward their original position.
In mild to moderate cases with invisible braces, treatment can be completed in as little as 6-12 months. More complex cases usually require 18-24 months. In our practice, we use efficient treatment methods to keep the duration of therapy as short as possible.
Orthodontic treatment is usually painless. Our patients find aligner systems particularly comfortable. After each change of aligners or after adjustments to fixed brackets, there may be a feeling of pressure for a few days, but this is usually mild and can be treated well with over-the-counter painkillers.
When performed professionally, the risks of orthodontic treatment are minimal. Possible risks include slight root resorption (shortening of the tooth roots) and an increased risk of caries if oral hygiene is inadequate during treatment with fixed appliances. We minimize these risks through regular check-ups.
With invisible braces for adults, there are hardly any restrictions in everyday life. You can remove the aligners for eating and drinking. With fixed brackets, very hard and sticky foods should be avoided. Sports can be played without restriction in all cases, although we recommend wearing a Mouthguard for contact sports.
Aligners should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush. You should brush your teeth after every meal before putting the aligners back in. For fixed brackets, we recommend special interdental brushes and, if necessary, an electric toothbrush. At our practice, you will receive detailed care instructions and regular professional teeth cleaning.
